On tour in Europe with Enslaved:
The recordings for the third Audrey Horne album started in September 2009 at Joe Barresi's JHOC Studio in Los Angeles. After leaving LA they went back to Bergen and "Conclave & Earshot Studio" for additional recordings. The finished recordings were then sent back to Joe Barresi for final mixing.

During the stay in LA the band published a diary of sorts on their Myspace page. This is what they wrote:
Hi!! Just a quick check in from Kjetil in LA.
We arrived last night and got picked up by Joe Barresi at the airport. We drove right to the studio and got a quick tour of the facilities.
The studio looks amazing and we can't wait to go to work, we are really exited. We'll beging to setup the gear tonight, then I'll go to work on the drumtracks tomorrow.
We'll keep you posted daily.
Have a nice day.
Kjetil
Day two in the studio, and the first day of recording. Kjetil has been whipped around by Joe, but he's doing an amazing job. His china and splash symbals has been cursed and banned by Joe and drumtech Mike, but that hasn't stopped him.
Kjetil...or as we like to call him : K.C. Grief put on his bandana and went all sexy and apeshit behind the kit. There is a video tape of it, that's been classefied as porn..that's how hot his work was. Personally, I'v been drinkin coffee and jerkin around the studio, and as always, finnishing off some last minute lyric...if it's done before dead-line...it's not art. Ice and Thomas has been laying down some cue-guitars, but got distracted every now and then by the looks of K.C's moves and drum-faces.
LA is said to be sunny and hot...but we would not know!!!
Peace out..and keep it real-estate people!!!
Yo good people!!
Day 3 in studio with Joe Barresi. Kjetil are still doing drums, our drum-tech Mike has brought a shit load of drums, and today we used drums that fitted the loose 70ish style that a song needed. They sounds amazing. I'm down to one song that still has'nt got all the words it needs, to be called a complete lyric.....but getting there.
It's hot as hell outside, and our good friend Torgrim Øyre (Hole In The Sky) is coming in to town today.
Icedale wants to go to the beach and Thomas wants to avoid it. Ha ha!! He's a cold motherfucker !! Will submit photos later.
Got to get back..Gary Moore rock must be made. Peace out!!
Ha Ha...I wrote fitte!! (?? No you didn't. Ed. note)
So! Another day here at Joes house of compression, and we are almost done with the drums...and it sounds great!! We have had some creative discussions and a couple of good fist-fights today, but no-one is eaported dead or missing ,yet..so all in all a good day.
I suspect that Joes dog; Bullet, sees us a bunch of nordic fuck-heads, as he has given us a couple of those looks.
I was out jogging at 07.00 this morning, that idea was classified as unforgivable non-rock behavoure by Joe and the guys..my apologies has been excepted and I have moved on to other stupid ideas.
Tomorrow we will clean out the drums and start with the guitars...that means that we loose our totally brilliant , and funny as hell drumtech Mike. Hopefully he will pop by and visit us still.
Thomas says : Keep it real, Ice says : stay sexy, K.C. Grief say : Hell yeah, Joe says : "whatever he just said !" and Toschie says : Good night, God bless..now fuck off to bed!!
Peace out ! T.
Aiiiiit!! *
Yepp, the one and only K.C.Grief are done. He has finnished the drum tracks in a superb way, and are now of to the strip for tequila and ....more tequila.
We are proud of the man. Now we start with guitars and vocals. And believe me, Joes studio is like a candyshop. More guitars, amps, mics and so on, than we can count. He is one hell of a producer and probably the best man to work with...period!!
His tech, Jun Murakawa, moves arond the studio like a ghost, and fixes everything so that we get the best sound money and tuna-sandwiches can buy.
Mike left today, and will be missed. (the man uses the word fuck more than any man has ever done before, and has named Kjetil "Lars Ulrich" about 1000 times...funny everytime though.) But we will see him again on next sundays BBQ.
We have a day of tomorrow, and we will spend it on the beach, so no blogg tomorrow.
Rather serious blogg today...sorry about that. Anyway...this will be a motherfucker of an album, and we can not wait to put it ouy, but meanwhile you can call Thomas, and he will sing you samples from it with his sexy-I-have-been-around-the-block-voice. He is listed, so you will find his number in the book.
Tonight we will party and fight!!! Peace out!!
Yepp! * Sunday was our day off, and we needed it after having spent the previous night at the ever so famous RAINBOW BAR & GRILL on sunset strip...do not ask!!!! We spent sunday shopping, and crusing around. Went to see a studio, a huge guitar shop and other tourist-stuff. After that we went to Venice beach and looked at the freaks, got scared and left in a hurry...why the americans love that place is a true mystery. Elisabeth, who is Joes assistant, came on saturday so she and Joe joined us. In the evening we had some food before we went to Adam, the guitar-player from TOOLs house. He had the most amazing home we have ever seen...and a sound system the made our ears bleed. Nice man and good times!!
Yesterday we started with guitars and vocals, we do two songs at a time, first git, then vox, before we move on to two new songs. Right now we are working on a ballad, that will follow up where Skid Row left off with "I remember you". Things are already sounding great, and we have not even started mixing, so it will be a monster in the end.
Thomas refuses to play a single fuckin note unless we call him by the name : space ace, and Icedale demanded a fan to get the right wind-in-hair feeling.
Apart from that they are nice guys.
By the way, the hotel-manager at the place we stay at is Norman Bates. Ha Ha. (nervous laughter). And oh..America..waffels for breakfast ?...what the fuck????????????
Peace out!!

Another day here at Joes house of compression, and we are laying down more guitars and vocals..but what the fuck..I already told you that twice.
Today I would like to talk about the album title..any good ideas out there? We have come up with some killer names for it.
If it is a metal album:
SHREDDING THE BEAST
or
WHITE METAL/SOFT ROCK
or maybe even
BULLET, THE SHREDDASOURUS (after Joes dog Bullet, who humped my leg while I was trying to lay down a vocaltrack)
If it is an emo album:
YOU CAME HERE FOR THE TAN AND THE PRADA SUNGLASSES, BUT LEFT WITH THE CLAMS AND THE SHAME OF BEING ASSOCIATED WITH BOYS PRETENDING TO BE GIRLS DOWN AT E COLORADO AND WALNUT ST. (FALL OUT BOY REMIX)
Or, if it is a Sahg album: III
We do not know, so if you have a good idea, please share it with us.
Peace out ladies and gents! Toschie.
Good people of the fine, fine rock community!!!!! I would like to tell you all a bit about our rituals in the studio. To make a fine piece of rock music it is important to have safe sorroundings.
We start every, and I mean every day with a TNT SONG OF THE DAY, since TNT are without doubt one of historys greatest bands. We also finnish of the day with one of their songs. Todays starter was EDDIE ( from the originale norwegian debut.)
Joe is a huge fan!!!!!
In his studio Joe also have a screen that shows chapter 14 from FROM DUSK TIL DAWN, ( the scene where Salma Hayek dances.) in loop 24-7. I am not sure if this inspires him or distracts him, anyhow he seems to enjoy it, even though it has been playing since 2002!
I also make him a drawing of a SCENE OF THE DAY, and some of my co-workers in Audrey have been offended deeply, and have sworn an ugly revenge!!! I sleep with one eye open!
Thanks for all the good suggestions for an album title, they have all inspired us in a way...and by all means..keep em coming!!
Until next time : Peace out!!!! Toschie, keeper of the dying flame, and defender of all that is vanishing!!!
Hepp! *
We are getting close to the end of this recording session, tomorrow is our last day with Joe in his studio. On sunday we are going to have a grand ol..BBQ at his house and drink all of his beer..and he claims to have enough booze to kill at least 18 people. On Monday it is off to Bergen, Norway, to do some keys and stuff, that we will send over to Joe so that he can start mixing it.
Joe says that the album should be called " Waiting for harmonies" he he...not a bad idea. Icedale has gone totally Malmsteen here now, and I am on my way out the door to buy him a silly shirt to go with it.
Thomas is looking forward to come home to a normal temperature, Icedale to garage and his dear dear fernet branca... me to my girlfriend and my daughters, and Kjetil wants to move into The Rainbow bar and grill and stay here in sunny Ca.
Anyhow we are makin a killer album, and we are lookin forward to put it out and becom disgusting, filthy rich!!!
Peace out !! Toschie aka Pelle Parafin!!
As you can tell from reading the blog, the stay in LA was both a time of great confusion and enlightenment for the boys. Coming from a small town of trade and commerce, long winter nights and dark satanic metal, two weeks of constant sun, blue sky, bikini dressed girls and bars can play tricks with your mind, hence the tendency to excessive use of exlamation marks.
I'm happy to say that the boys are back to their normal "in-yer-face" selves and they still think, as do I, that they've made a killer album!
* In case you're not familiar with these expressions they are simply local variatons of heavy rock war cries.

The following examples of exquisite fine arts are heavily protected by copyright laws and sophisticated burglar alarms, not to mention Butch, a vicious Chihuahua trained to kill. He will lick you to death, if you let him. He may also hump your leg and bark. You've been warned. Proceed with caution.
If the band were ever to have a Kiss moment, this is how Toschie imagine it would turn out. (Click on image for bigger version.)
Toschie put pen to paper to capture this significant moment in the history of Audrey Horne. Left to right: Toschie, Thomas, Ice and Kjetil (still not quite there when it comes to making the subtle sign of the metal brotherhood as demonstrated so gracefully by Thomas and Ice.)
A night of metal bonanza with this Audrey Horne, El caco, Stonegard triple bill at NHH in Bergen a couple of years ago, and Toschie was there to capture the essence of it all. If you bring a knife to a gun fight, bring lots of them. They did, and live to tell about it.
We'll spare you the most horrific details of this story suffice it to say that it involved (very) large quantities of alcohol, a ledge, and a guitar player (who shall not be named (or shamed)) demonstrating the fine art of (metal) air guitar. Sadly this involved the use of both hands and with the absence of a gripping tail the outcome was inevitable. He also learned the hard way that it is not a very good idea to cushion the fall with his head.
Backstage at the Quart Festival. Words alone cannot even begin to describe this moment! (Warning! Clicking on image will show bigger version.)
